Our K–8 students are absolutely loving art class each week with Mr. Bert! Their creativity shines through as they explore new mediums and create amazing works of art. Some students are even saying they want to look just like Mr. Bert because they admire him so much! 💙

TRANSPORTATION UPDATE!
Good Morning,
Today, Monday, September 2, we will only have one bus running after school routes. Heather will run her regular route first and then return to school to pick up Bruce’s riders and complete his route. If possible we will put all riders on the bus at 3:15 if room allows which will allow students to arrive home earlier.
Please note that students on Bruce’s route may arrive home as late as 5:30 p.m. If you are able to pick up your student or make alternate arrangements, please call the school office to let us know. 618-883-2131

What an exciting week it has been at our school! Our Eagles have been busy learning, creating, and having fun together.
📚 Building Math Skills
Students have been exploring math in hands-on ways, using symbols and activities that help make learning meaningful and fun.
🇺🇸 Learning the History of the American Flag
Our Eagles proudly studied the history of the American flag, deepening their understanding of its meaning and the importance of respect for our nation’s symbols.
🎒 All About Me Bags
To build connections, students shared “All About Me” bags, giving classmates a peek into their hobbies, favorites, and special memories. This activity helps us celebrate what makes each Eagle unique!
🍭 Candyland Adventures
From games to creative learning stations, Candyland-inspired activities brought plenty of excitement into the classrooms.
🤝 Friends & Fun
Perhaps the best part of the week was simply spending time together—laughing, learning, and building friendships that make our school community so special.

We want to inform you of a possible change to our after-school transportation on Tuesday, September 2. At this time, there is a possibility that we will only have one bus available to run after-school routes that afternoon.
If this occurs, Heather's route will run first. After completing that route, Heather will return to the school to pick up Bruce's riders and take them home. Students who ride Bruce's bus will be supervised in the cafeteria until the bus arrives to transport them.

Each week, I’ll be sharing highlights of the amazing things happening in our small but mighty school. Be on the lookout for articles titled Inside the Eagle’s Nest—a window into the joy, learning, and growth taking place in our classrooms.
A Great Start to the Year
What an amazing week it has been! Our Eagles are already soaring as they settle back into the routines of school. Teachers and students are finding their rhythm with morning meetings, classroom expectations, and new opportunities to learn and explore. While the first few weeks always bring adjustment, our students are showing resilience, enthusiasm, and eagerness to dive into learning.
Classroom Highlights
STEM Bins & Flexible Seating – Students across grade levels have been exploring our new STEM bins, sparking creativity and problem-solving skills. Flexible seating options are also giving students a chance to learn in the way that works best for them—whether that means sitting at a table, working on the floor, or standing to stay focused.
Science Fun – Hands-on activities have brought science to life, from experimenting with balance and motion in the younger grades to exploring ecosystems and energy in the upper grades.
The Arts – Our new art teacher, Mr. Bert, has quickly become a favorite. Students have been trying their hand at drawing, painting, and learning to express themselves through art. Their excitement is contagious, and the hallways are already starting to fill with colorful creations.
Grade-Level Opportunities
1st & 2nd Grades – Building strong reading habits, practicing math facts, and working together during small-group learning. These students are learning the importance of routines and teamwork.
3rd Grade – Developing independence and responsibility while diving into multiplication, reading comprehension, and exciting project-based learning activities.
4th Grade – Exploring science experiments, strengthening writing skills, and learning about Illinois history. Students are beginning to take ownership of their learning and set personal goals.
5th Grade – Preparing for middle school with leadership opportunities, group projects, and deeper discussions in reading, math, and social studies. They are modeling what it means to be role models for younger Eagles.
Tips for Parents
Getting back into the groove of school can take time for students—and families! Here are a few suggestions to help support your child at home:
Set consistent routines for homework, reading, and bedtime to help your child feel prepared and rested.
Ask specific questions like, “What was one thing you built, created, or learned today?” instead of just “How was school?”
Celebrate small wins—whether it’s finishing a book, trying a new math strategy, or showing kindness to a classmate.
Stay connected by checking folders, planners, or school communication so you don’t miss upcoming events or important reminders.
Looking Ahead
The school year is off to a wonderful start, and the weeks ahead promise even more opportunities for learning, creativity, and growth. Our Eagles are spreading their wings—and together, we will help them soar!

Mrs. Michele's classroom was a busy place today. This year students grade 1-5 have science and social studies in her classroom. Today was a day of experiments. First grade worked on learning about how solids react to temperature change. Second grade worked on chemical reactions. Third grade worked on acids. Fourth and fifth grade worked on measurement and using a microscope. What an awesome day of learning and discovery! #togetherwerise

As of today, 8/19, we are experiencing some technical difficulties with Online Payments for Lunch Accounts. You can still monitor your child's Daily Lunch Count so you can see what they are getting each day. Once I have more information, I will keep everyone updated. If you would like to pay on your child's lunch account, you are still more than welcome to send in a check or cash to the office!

The Brussels High School Golf practice is canceled for today due to heat and chances of rain. There will be practice tomorrow from 4:30-6:00. We will be chipping, putting, and hitting the range.
