On Tuesday, grades K-6 enjoy a pizza and ice cream party they earned by reaching their reading goal of 500 books. Each class participated by reading books and keeping track using a visual display. Working with Mrs. Michele they set goals and reached each goal set. The students have decided to continue to keep track until the end of the year. Total books read so far 576!

Our Brussels National Honor Society members helped out with our annual canned food drive, along with our local Girl Scouts. This is an annual project that we do each spring. Our Girl Scouts and NHS members take different routes and place bags and then one week later pick up any canned food or dry food items people would like to donate. This year’s donations went to the SVDP food center. The group collected over 2800 food items and helped restock a depleted center. Great job to all who helped place the donation bags and those who helped sort and collect the items. Way to go BHS NHS and the Girls Scouts!

Today 1st & 2nd grade took a virtual field trip to learn about Legos and play to learn. The Lego team showed what they do when they need help to think through a problem or get their creativity flowing. They make paper airplanes! Kaylee led the class by teaching them how to make one design of a plane then Miss Steward showed them another design. We also read about the first female Master Lego Builder at New York's Lego Land.

On Saturday March 11th, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys basketball team ended their season with a game against their parents/family members. It was a battle of 'the youngs" vs "the olds"! There were many smiles and it was the perfect way to end the season. Parents, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to enjoy the day! Thanks for a great season Coach Adam and Coach Michael!

A friend of mine asked me about purchasing a wooden flag from this website online. I said, "I know that our vocational teacher, Chad Brodbeck, has our students do that type of thing. How about give them a shot at it?" So I sent Mr. B a picture and he and his students took it from there! I am so proud of the work that they do here at BHS! Go Logan and Mr. B!

Big thanks again to CCHD's Sandy Teichmann (aka Germ-y Edith) and Jamie Bailey who came to the grade school classrooms to teach the students about proper handwashing. The kids had a blast with the our newest student and best friend, Edith, but agreed she has a lot to learn about staying germ-free!

A big shout out to CCHD's Jamie Bailey and Sandy Teichmann who came down to describe their nursing careers to our Health Careers students. They gave our students an honest view of how versatile, challenging and rewarding a career in nursing can be. The county is blessed to have such professionals caring for us!

February 22, 2023 Parents/Guardians of Brussels Grade School Students, Today, during the storm that hit our area, we did take shelter just as we have practiced many times during our tornado drills. For a while, I was concerned about the high winds I was seeing so we took shelter to make sure that everyone was safe. Our kids did great and moved from their classrooms to their assigned shelter area within a few seconds. This turned out be just another good drill. Safety first. Sincerely, Mark R. Martin

What a week! The Brussels High School Scholastic Bowl team hosted the Pike County Conference tournament and the Masonic Tournament this past week. On Wednesday, we took 3rd place in the Pike County Conference Tournament falling to Payson (2nd Place) and Pittsfield (1st Place). We also had 3 members make the All-Conference team based on how many questions they answered that evening: Gaybrielle Henry (16 questions), Morgan Klaas (12 Questions), and Jerica LaMarsh (12 Questions). Congratulations girls! On Saturday, BHS hosted the Masonic Tournament. 7 schools participated, the top 4 teams won awards, and the number one team will go on to the Masonic State Tournament. As the morning began, Brussels was 4-0 with two rounds left to play. Unfortunately, we fell to Calhoun and Western ending the day in 3rd place. Western went on to win the day going 5-1, while Calhoun finished 2nd with a record of 4-2. Brown County took 4th place ending the day 3-3. It was a great day for scholastic bowl for all those in participation. Congratulations to Western on their advancement to state along with all the other scholastic bowl teams for an exciting day of tournament play. The BHS Scholastic Bowl Team wraps up the season with two more regular season matches followed by Regionals on 3/6 at Metro East Lutheran where we will take on Gibault Catholic (Waterloo) at 4:30pm. Regardless of how the season ends, the BHS Scholastic Bowl team has come a long way since our creation five years ago. I’ve seen growth in every single player on the team. Congratulations on a successful season!
